Fraglace

I'm proud to present you the product of a collaboration with my friend Florian @bazookajoe385 and a local goldsmith.

It's the Fraglace and as the name implies it's a combination of a neckLACE and the pull ring and safety pin of a (FRAGmentation) hand grenade. Heavily inspired by the ubiquitous use of rings from used grenades in the Vietnam war and also the iconic portrayal in films like M.A.S.H., we wanted to recreate that style in an everyday item.
The material for the necklace is something that would've been available in a combat zone as well - paracord salvaged from a T-10 troop parachute. The length can be adjusted with hand-cut and -stamped leather toggles and simple knots with the leather bearing the individual serial number of each Fraglace. For a permanent adjustment you can also then cut the paracord and melt it's ends with any lighter or candle.

As a specialty I teamed up with a local goldsmith to have a handful of grenade pins and rings...properly gold-plated! After a lengthy process and two companies failing the third electro-plating company finally delivered a working solution to have authentic rings plated and no imitation made from brass. You will have to ask the experts but grenade pins seem to be made of a kind of treated steel that makes plating them very, very difficult. However the final result is stunning and allows you to wear a necklace in proper Vietnam, Apocalypse Now, platoon or M.A.S.H. style...with a slight touch of exclusivity!
